BUENA LANES

champs Mark Myers & Jordan Bibby

Mark Myers and Jordan Bibby captured their first JBT titles each in high-scoring JBT action at Ventura's Buena Lanes.

The scratch division stepladder finals opened with Cameron Smith, one of three bowlers to shoot 300 on the day, defeating points leader Devin Bidwell 219-190.  Joey Chuo then edged Smith in a thriller, 241-238.  Chuo then got by James Hawkins, another 300 shooter (Jonathan Mamakos tossed the third) 234-178, to reach the title match.

On a day when many bowlers were striking, nobody was striking more than top seed Myers, who missed the all-time JBT 8-game record by just one pin at a gigantic +502, his second near-miss at the scoring record in the past two months.  Despite the huge numbers, Myers has had trouble winning matchplay games in the past, though.  He'd have none of that here, as Chuo struggled a bit on the championship pair, and Mark took advantage for a 211-180 win and a very long-awaited first career JBT title.

Oscar Chan, a recent winner with us, opened up the handicap finals with a 253-211 win over Kirk Chui.  Chan then got past Arizona standout Derek Acuff 243-218, before Jacob Camacho stopped Chan's run in a heartbreaker for Oscar, 206-203, to advance to the title match.

Top seed Bibby was having his best JBT performance ever, enjoying the home cooking to nab the top seed.  The title match was close early, but in the end Jordan pulled away for a 241-214 win and his first career JBT title as well.

Thanks as always to the great crew at Buena for hosting our Tour.  Over $1,700 in scholarships were awarded to bowlers of all averages under 21- want in on the fun?  Check out our schedule and come on out to the next JBT event, it's really as simple as that!
