Gold Coast Lanes
champs Devin Bidwell & Kennison Andrews Two talented Californians invaded Nevada, as Devin Bidwell and Kennison Andrews captured JBT titles in exciting Mojave Conference action at Gold Coast. Brandon Allred opened up the scratch division stepladder finals with a 202-187 win over Nick Lamek, who was making his first scratch finals. Allred, the uber-busy UNLV collegiate star, then got by Eric Hatchett 217-183, and followed with a 193-183 win over DJ Sloan, the previous day's runner-up, to reach the title match. Top seed Devin Bidwell proved he could strike all day on an easy shot last weekend in Los Angeles (be sure to read about that on the website as well), and this time he proved he could strike on tough conditions as well, as his 276 on the tough chameleon pattern was high for the day and vaulted him to the top seed. In the title match, Allred appeared to run out of steam, and Bidwell's opening five-bagger left him no chance to come back. the 244-178 finale was good for the 7th title of Devin's JBT career. Kyle Andrews began the handicap division stepladder finals with a 221-181 win over Aaron Watkins. Andrews then got past Shane Courtney 249-172, setting up a JBT first- a stepladder match between two identical twin brothers (see the picture below to see just how identical)! In that game, older brother Kennison got the best of Kyle 214-203, and he advanced to the title game. Top seed Marina Stever had been trading that lead with Kennison throughout the day, so it was appropriate that they squared off for the title. Stever was within a shot of victory last month at Cactus, and after Andrews opened in the tenth frame (after a clean first 9 frames), she had the chance to avenge that loss with a double. That was no easy task on the tough pattern laid out for this double points event, and unfortunately for her she could not get the strikes. The 215-195 resulting win for Kennison was good for the second title of his young JBT career. Thanks as always to the crew at Gold Coast for hosting us. Over $1,500 in scholarships were awarded to bowlers of all ages and averages- want in on all this fun? Just come on down to the next JBT event, it's really that simple!
