CANYON LANES

champs Riley Dempsey & Wesley Low

Riley Dempsey and Wesley Low added to their JBT title collection with wins at Morongo Casino's Canyon Lanes in exciting Southern California Conference action.

All-time JBT earnings leader Kyle King opened the scratch division of the stepladder finals with a 218-200 win over Matt Cormack, a past champion at this center.  King then got by Mark Curtis 226-205, and followed with a 214-184 win over two-hander Mark Myers to set up an all-Arizona title match.

Top seed Riley Dempsey completely owned this tournament, leading all eight rounds.  That sometimes finishing the deal tough in the title match, as you essentially have to win the tournament twice, but Dempsey was able to avoid this with a 218-201 win, good for his third career JBT title.

Anthony Cando opened up the handicap stepladder finals with a 207-197 win over Brandon Turner, who was the first-round leader with a 296 effort.  Adrian Duke then came up with a huge game in a 279-218 win over Cando.  Low then turned the tables on Duke with a big game of his own, winning the match 263-188 to advance to the title game.

Lots of "+" symbols were the order of the day in the handicap division, and top seed Billy Dacanay stayed ahead of the field to grab the top seed.  However, he ran into a bowler with all the momentum in Wesley.  The points leader did well on the tough shot the day before, and was close to Dacanay in the semifinals as well.  Billy struggled on the right lane all match, and Wesley took advantage for a 235-210 win, and his third career JBT title.

Thanks to everyone at Canyon for a great job hosting our event.  Over $1,500 in scholarships were awarded to bowlers of all ages and averages- want in on all the fun?  Check out our schedule and come on out to the next JBT event, it's that simple!
