Ryan Scheer and Joe Dominguez captured JBT titles as the ultimate survivors in exciting NM-TX Conference JBT action at Roswell's Town & Country Entertainment.
After our five game qualifier, survivors bowled one-game, low-bowler out matches all day long until only one person remained undefeated. After five rounds, the scratch division was reduced to three bowlers. In that match, previous day's champ Jess Gagliardi was eliminated in third with 193, while Travis Turner (224) and points leader Ryan Scheer (228) advanced to the title match.
Turner was untested in this situation, while Scheer is gaining confidence and momentum with each event, yet a close and well-bowled title match ensued. With a chance to double to shut out Ryan, Turner threw a perfect tenth frame shot, but a solid-8 heartbreakingly stood. Given the second chance, Scheer stepped up and struck in his tenth for a 201-196 win, and the 4th title of his JBT career.
In the handicap division, 28 survivors were whittled down to 8, all eight of whom were Roswell bowlers- way to defend the home turf! In those matches, Chris Lewis beat James Scott 208-189; Dominguez beat Scott Green 200-162; Kara Casaus beat Zach Armstead 207-205, and Austin Masterson, who won in survivor here last year, beat Dan Aguilar 220-206. In the semifinal games, Dominguez beat Lewis 189-181, and Casaus outscored Masterson 264-234 to set up the finale.
The title match was a true war of attrition, with marks hard to come by on both sides. It was Dominguez who righted the ship first, marking from the 7th frame on for a 193-167 win and the championship.
