STARLITE LANES
champs Labriel Leach & Randi Speiler Labriel Leach and Randi Speiler captured titles in the first-ever JBT 40-frame game competition, hosted by Flagstaff's Starlite Lanes. The 40-frame game is exactly that, one game, forty frames long, with special tasks each frame that can earn you bonuses for good shots or penalties for bad shots. It made for a very fun break from the usual grind of the JBT format, just before we begin the stressful stretch run towards the Invitationals and JBT Go Wireless Bowler of the Year awards. In the scratch division, Labriel Leach's 1058 was good enough to win the title over fine efforts from Aaron Foshie (1021) and Kyle King (1009). He remains red-hot, having made numerous top-5 finishes in 2010 before finally breaking through with a win the previous week in Albuquerque. The victory here was the 6th of the JBT veteran's excellent career. If you'd like to congratulate him, the Iceman will be thawing out from his freezing journey (see blanket above) back home in Tucson. Over in the handicap division, Randi Speiler claimed her third career JBT title with a 1073 score that beat out Danny Varholdt (1009) and Valry Swaim (989). The talented Californian has made the top five in 2 of the 3 Arizona events she's entered this year, and continues to be a serious contender for the All-Conference Bowler of the Year crown. Thanks to everyone at Starlite for another great hosting job, and for working with us on this experimental event. Over $1,300 in scholarships were awarded to bowlers of all averages- want in on the fun? There's still time this season! Check out our schedule and come on down!
