BEDROXX

champs Anthony Tripi & Shannon Barton

Anthony Tripi continued his red-hot spring, while Shannon Barton claimed JBT victory for the first time, in exciting Arizona Conference action at Tucson's Bedroxx.

Kyle King opened yet another scratch division stepladder finals appearance by rolling the last six strikes for a 214-201 win over Shane Valleau.  Tripi, who has had King's number more than most over the years, then beat Kyle 247-190.  Anthony then snuck by Mike Kremer, who always does well at Bedroxx, 208-200, to reach the title match.

Top seed Labriel Leach has, like Tripi, been resurgent this spring, recovering from a mild winter slump to earn the top seed in a stepladder finals for the first time in his JBT career.  The match remained close throughout, but in the end Leach's tenth frame open proved decisive.  Tripi won the game 237-224 for the second title of his JBT career, his first having come just last month in Phoenix.

Cassie Collins opened the handicap division stepladder finals with a 214-201 win over California veteran Samantha Meyers.  Danny Varholdt, the only guy to make the finals, then beat Collins 236-221.  Kristen Lee then put a stop to Varholdt's run 237-211, to set up the all-ladies' title match.

Top seed Barton had been trading the lead with Lee since the end of qualifying, when both ladies exploded with huge games (Kristen with 279 scratch and Shannon with 267 scratch) to leap into the 1-2 spots.  Shannon grabbed the top seed for the finals after game eight, and though Lee kept it close early, Barton was able to pull away in the second half of the title game for a 240-200 win, and the first title of her JBT career.  Both bowlers had their first place totals upped to $225 thanks to Bowling Dynamics' sponsorship of all Arizona Conference events.

Thanks as always to the great staff of Bedroxx (including JBT star alumni Kalyn Washburn) for a fine job hosting this event, which awarded over $1,700 in scholarships to bowlers of all averages age 21 and under.  Want in on all the fun?  Check out our schedule and come on down to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
