JBT GIRLS’ INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT

        Makayla Douglas put on as dominant a performance as possible en route to winning the 2011 JBT Girls Invitational, hosted by The Orleans Bowling Center. 

        Douglas qualified first after five games, averaging over 233 to lead by almost 100 pins.  Sixteen qualifiers were then whittled down to eight in two rounds of two-game, total pinfall matchplay.  In the round of eight, Douglas beat #13 seed and 2010 female Bowler of the Year Rebeca Reguero 464-393.  However, Makayla was the only higher seed to advance to the final four, as #5 Valerie Riggin upset #3 Courtney Dutton, #7 Savannah Carr ousted #2 Correen Lieber, and #6 Karlie Loop eliminated #4 Ashley Dunn.

        In the resulting single-game semifinal matches, Carr beat Riggin 217-177, and Douglas blasted a 278 game to defeat Loop, to set up the final.  Carr, a handicap division bowler at regular season JBT events, had by far the best tournament of her career to reach the finals of this all-scratch event.  However, even her fine performance was not enough to keep up with Makayla, as she just kept on tearing apart the pins.  The 259-217 final score was good for the championship and the $500 top prize.  However, since she won a JBT Women's Series event this season (at Splits in March), she also earns the $500 Big Impact Bonus, for a well-deserved $1,000 payday.
