BRC Kyrene

champs Riley Dempsey & Blake Kalaf

Riley Dempsey completed a doubleheader sweep, while Blake Kalaf earned his first title of the season, in exciting JBT action at Chandler's BRC Kyrene Lanes.

The field struggled quite a bit on the PBA Shark pattern, with a 167 average good enough to make the semifinals in the scratch division.  Dempsey led at -12 after game 5, and was the only bowler plus after game 8- compared to +203 being good enough for fifth the day before!  In an all-Tucson opener to the scratch finals, Labriel Leach edged Nick Lee 163-160.  Kyle King then beat Leach 245-208, and followed with a 187-163 victory over Rane Lacona to reach the title game.

Dempsey showed a more confident side in the previous day's title match victory over King, and that carried over to this match as well, as he appeared to have the better look on the pair, and took advantage for a 216-184 win and the 6th title of his JBT career.  He is the third bowler already this young season to win both JBT events in one weekend (joining Tyler Cruz and Zach Martinez).

Kalaf ran the ladder en route to the handicap title, beginning with a 223-187 win over Brock Hargrove.  Kalaf then beat Kayla Goad 204-183, and followed with a 249-158 win over first time finalist Dakota Thompson to react the title game.

Top seed AJ Estes took over the lead in the semifinals, but it was Kalaf with all the momentum, and he was able to win the match 217-183 for the championship, the third win of his JBT career.

Over $1,400 in scholarships were awarded to bowlers of all averages under age 22- want in on the fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
