Tournament Rules

Please keep for your records.

 

  1. Eligibility–This is a two person scratch doubles event.  This is a USBC certified tournament. All bowlers must be Certified. If you are not Certified, and bowl JBT tournaments or bowl in High School tournaments you can pay a one time participation fee. (300c para b). Adults:$5.00 Youth: $2.00. Fee must be paid prior to the start of competition. The two person team may consist of youth male, youth female, or a combination. Also, teams may consist of youth male & adult male, youth female & adult female or a combination. On an adult/youth team the Adult bowler can receive up to a $400 gift card. Adult Collegiate bowlers may receive Scholarship money.  There must be at least 1 youth bowler per team. Youth Bowlers are defined as 19 or under as of August 1, 2010 and not Certified as an Adult bowler. This is an invitational tournament, and the tournament management has the right to refuse entry to any team. NOTE:  NO P.B.A. EXEMPT MEMBERS ARE ALLOWED.

 

2.  Check-In–Check-In time shall be one hour prior to the start of the tournament. For the semi-finals, check-in time shall be one-half hour prior to the start of the round.  Teams will receive lane assignments prior to the start of the tournament.

 

  3.  Ties–In the case of a tie for positions 1-4 after semi-finals, a one-game Baker match will be held between the teams involved prior to the start of the finals.  If a tie exists in the championship match, a 9th and 10th frame Baker roll-off will be conducted to determine the winner.

 

  4.  Tournament Management–The decisions of the tournament management shall be final.  Only an appeal made in accordance with USBC rules can alter a decision of the tournament management.

 

  5.  Entry Fee–The entry fee for each division is $200 ($100 per bowler).

Breakdown per bowler: Linage $40.00, Expenses $10.00, Awards and Scholarships $50.00

 

  6.  Entry Deadline–Entry forms and average verification for Division 2 and Division 3 MUST be postmarked by MAY 15, 2011.  Entries not accompanied by full payment of entry fees will be returned.  Late entries will be accepted until one-half hour prior to qualifying squad with a $10.00 charge (added to scholarship funds) if space is available.

 

  7.  Awards and Scholarships–All fees designated awards and scholarships shall be returned 100%.  Awards and scholarships will be divided according to the number of entries in each division and will be distributed based on a minimum ratio of 1 out of 6 entries.  All scholarships will be administered by the USBC SMART program (SuperBowlers Smart account # 9029).

 

  8.  Protests–Any questions or concerns must be brought to the tournament directors.  Official protests must be filed in writing with one of the directors within 72 hours of the completion of the tournament.

 

  9.  Average Verification–A current league standing sheet for each bowler must be included with the entry form if the team enters Division 2 and 3.  HIGHEST  League, High School Bowling or JBT Tournament average (minimum of 24 games) as of April 1, 2011 must be used.  Coaches AND Bowlers are responsible to see that average verification is sent in.  Teams without average verification must compete in Division 1. (All bowlers must be certified, see rule 1 for certification rule)

 

  10.  Conduct–Behavior determined to be inappropriate by tournament directors will not be allowed on or off the lanes and may result in disqualification of a bowler or team. Bowlers will not wear apparel or use bowling equipment depicting alcohol, tabacco, gambling, use illegal substance or USE inappropriate language/gestures during competition.  At the discretion of tournament management, any incident that reflects poorly on the Doubles Challenge (of which the tournament directors are aware) including, but not limited to, destruction or defacement of tournament property, or property of the Riverside (including but not limited to the Bowling Center, guest rooms, and other recreational areas), the consumption of alcoholic beverages or gambling by minors could result in an individual or team’s disqualification.  Entry fees of disqualified teams or bowlers will not be refunded.

 

 

 

  1. Format–There shall be THREE divisions based on combined team average: Division 1 – 380 and above, Division 2 – 301 to 379, and (New Division) Division 3 – 300 and below.

                       NOTE: For Division 3 teams!! If there are less than 8 TEAMS entered, those teams MUST bowl in Division 2

 

All bowlers in each division will bowl six games of qualifying on Saturday and 6 Baker games. On Sunday morning, all teams will bowl 6 Baker games.  At least the top 8 teams in each division will advance to the semi-finals on Sunday afternoon.  Semi-finals will consist of 8 Baker matches, of which half will be bowled on Sunday afternoon and half on Monday morning. At least the top four teams will advance to a double-elimination bracket finals following semi-finals on Monday morning.  Any byes will be determined by finals match-play record.             

 

  12.  Match-Play–All Baker matches shall consist of two games, one bowled on each lane of the match pair.  Winner of each match will be determined by total match pinfall.  In semi-finals, bonus pins will be awarded as follows for a win:

Game one pinfall:16 bonus pins - Game two pinfall:16 bonus pins - Total match pinfall:18 bonus pins - Total of 50 bonus pins available in each semi-finals match.

 

  13.  Tournament Dress–Tournament dress code shall be based on the following (HOWEVER, tournament management shall determine what constitutes proper dress for participation at any time.):

A.  Boys: must wear dress slacks or dress walking shorts (NO JEANS) and a sport shirt with a collar or shirt with a Mock Collar.

B.  Girls: must wear an appropriate length skirt or dress shorts (AT LEAST mid-thigh), or dress slacks (NO JEANS ) and a sport shirt with collar or shirt with Mock collar.

C.  Matching collared or mock collared shirts MUST be worn the ENTIRE Tournament.  

 

       14.  During qualifying, if a team does not have another team to pace with, they cannot start their next frame until the second bowler throws his or her first shot.

 

      15.  Coaches are not allowed in the settee area during bowling.  Bowlers must remain in the settee area while bowling and coaches must remain in the concourse area.

 

   16.  All aisle ways and stairs must remain clear.

 

   17.  Premature termination of the tournament brought about by any emergency beyond the control of the Laughlin Baker Doubles Challenge could cause all advertised prizes, guaranteed or otherwise, to be prorated in accordance with the number of entrants who have bowled in each respective event up to the time of such termination.
