AMF WOODLAKE

champs Travis Hewitt & Drew Stern

Travis Hewitt and Drew Stern wrapped up the 2010-11 JBT Southern California Conference regular season with exciting wins in our first visit to AMF Woodlake Lanes.

Luis Perez won a two-frame rolloff over Ryan Peden to get into the stepladder finals, and stayed hot in round one of the finals with a 259-237 win over Matt Cormack.  Dan Patty then squeezed by Perez 212-209, before Mark Myers stopped Patty 217-203 to reach the title game.

Top seed Travis Hewitt dominated the event, leading since game four, but Myers, who took over the points lead with the solid day, is always tough in title matches.  In the end, needing a mark to win, Travis crumbled the big-4 on a high hit for a strike which keyed the 226-208 win, and the second title of his JBT career.

Samantha Meyers, the last of the original So Cal Conference bowlers, made her last regular season So Cal event a success with a 226-144 win over Jason Tilden to open the handicap division stepladder finals.  Brittany Kolatzny then beat Meyers in a great match, 255-240, and followed with a 222-190 win over Kayla Goad to reach the title game.

Top seed Drew Stern, another longtime veteran, stayed at or near the lead throughout the day, and remained confident in the title match as well.  Using a new Ebonite ball won in a JBT raffle, Stern won the game 237-212, good for the 4th title of his JBT career.  Drew is approaching the top-12 in all-conference points, a terrific accomplishment given he had to sit out the entire first half of the season with an arm injury.

The field is now set for the Southern California JBT Invitational, with $1,000 top scholarship prizes up for grabs in each division.  Check your eligibility on the website, and if you're not, lots of other great JBT events are available- check out the schedule, and come on down!
