With some high level help from Mr. Low, four very talented bowlers made it four in a row at the So Cal Baker Shootout, hosted by Canoga Park Bowl.
Eighteen Baker teams rolled 12 games of qualifying on a challenging lane condition, resulting in a -303 team score good enough to qualify for the best 2-of-3 matchplay rounds. Unlike in previous seasons, the three-time defending champion Dahdoul Textiles team struggled in the first round, qualifying seventh. Baker is all about chemistry, and they found it in matchplay, rolling past #10 Sexy And We Know It, #2 Let's Not Suck, and #7 maeT emaN to reach the finals. Meanwhile, 'The Real Team Swag' dominated the event, qualifying first and beating #9 'Flagrascones' and #4 'Tebowing' to advance against Dahdoul for the title.
On lanes so dry that most of the righties were forced to loft the gutter cap, The Dahdoulians won a wonderfully competitive first game 243-236 for their 13th consecutive matchplay win in this tournament, but the Swag (Cameron Smith, James Hawkins, Alexis Atkin, Mark Myers, Riley Dempsey) would not go away easily, snapping that streak with a 217-186 win to force a deciding game (at roughly 2:15 AM) for the title.
In the final game, Dahdoul took control in the second half, pulling away for the 223-201 win and the four-peat. The wins were the 7th for Wesley Low (the only member not to bowl all four years), 4th for Darcie Staggs (all in this event), 5th for Ken McElvaney, 8th for Matt Jones, and 55th for the incomparable Kyle King.
