GLENFAIR LANES

champs Derek Acuff & Jake Hilton

Derek Acuff joined an elite JBT club, while Jake Hilton joined the club of JBT champions, in exciting Arizona Conference action at Glenfair Lanes.

A star-studded scratch division stepladder finals began with Las Vegas' up and coming star Jakob Butturff defeat 33-time JBT champ Cameron Smith 237-205.   Jakob then got by talented Arizonan Curtis Lindeman 237-186.  All-time JBT titles leader Kyle King then made his return from surgery a success with a thrilling 190-186 win over Jakob to advance to yet another title match.

Top seed Derek Acuff had taken over the lead mid-tournament from Lindeman, and started off strong against King on a challenging lane condition.  However, as he has done so many times, Kyle made some great adjustments mid-game to get back in the pocket and eventually take the lead.   Needing a mark in the tenth frame, Acuff had already conceded defeat, but King's shot came up high and left a shocking 4-6-7, which he could not convert, giving Derek the 209-207 win.  Acuff thus  becomes just the 25th bowler in JBT history to win 10 or more titles- wow!

Alex Pellegrino opened the handicap division's stepladder finals with a 221-205 win over Alexis Atkin.  Pellegrino then rolled by Zach Lewandowski 209-171, before Jake Hilton stopped Pellegrino 233-200 to reach the title match.

Top seed Austin Thompson rolled the ninth-best 5-game handicap qualifying round (+289), then struggled a bit in the semifinals, but still had plenty of cushion to hold on to the top seed.  But you have to win that last game in a stepladder format, and unfortunately for Austin he continued to struggle, while Hilton seemed unfazed by his first title game appearance. Jake eventually won the match 221-176, good for the first title of his JBT career.

Kristen Lee continued her domination over Courtney Dutton in the Impact Bowling Women's Series title matches, beating her 225-181 for the day's crown, the fourth of the season for Kristen.

Derek and Jake each earned an extra $25 courtesy of Bowling Dynamics, and gift cards from Advantage Bowling, for the wins- thanks to all these great Phoenix area pro shops for helping out quality youth bowling!

Thanks as always to Glenfair for a great job hosting our events- if you want in on all the fun, just check out our schedule and come on down, it's that simple!
