CANYON LANES at MORONGO CASINO
champs Cameron Smith & Justin Patten Cameron Smith remained on a roll, while Justin Patten gave Rance Dvorak a nasty sense of deja-vu, in exciting JBT So Cal Conference action at Morongo Casino's Canyon Lanes. Strikes were the name of the game for the second event in a row, and DeeRonn Booker opened the scratch division stepladder finals with plenty of them in a 266-247 win over Jeremy Glover. Booker then rolled past Mark Myers, who earlier shot 299 and is always tough at Morongo, 226-201. In a repeat of the previous two title matches at Canyon, Smith then stopped Myers 252-177 to advance to the championship game. Top seed Riley Dempsey used a big semifinal set to take over the number one position, but the 13-time champ couldn't keep up with Smith's torrid pace. Cameron won the game 259-212 for the 31st title of his amazing JBT career, and is starting to pile up single-season statistics that will threaten some of our all-time records. Savannah Carr opened up the handicap division finals with a 178-157 win over Trenton Romleski, who had snuck into the finals by one pin over Trevor Thompson. Carr then rolled past Vincent Nolan 253-175, before Patten stopped Savannah 196-176 to advance to the title match. Top seed Rance Dvorak dominated the event, taking over the lead in game four and eventually grabbing the top spot by 100 pins. He was eager for revenge against Patten, who had beaten him in the title match at Vista back in November. Amazingly, the match came down to the tenth frame again, with Dvorak again needing to double to win. Despite a good shot, Rance didn't strike, and Patten won the game 206-183 for the second title of his JBT career. Justin becomes one of our youngest bowlers- at just eight years old- to win two JBT titles! Brittany Kolatzny defeated Ashley Dunn 222-203 to win the day's Impact Bowling Women's Series event, the first of three wins she needs to qualify for the 2012 Girls TPC this summer. Kyle Duster won the annual Super Bowl Score contest by picking the 21-17 Giants final score exactly right! Bobby Hornacek won the very fun day-long Super Bowl Prop Bet by winning a random draw against six other bowlers who got 5 of the 8 prop bets right. Big thanks to the Romleski family for their sponsorship of the event, which helped us to award over $2,000 in scholarships to bowlers of all ages and averages. Want in on the fun? Check out our schedule and come on down to the next JBT event- it's that simple!
