SILVA LANES
champs Jack Frost III & Derek Webster On a chilly day in Albuquerque, Jack Frost III swept in and cooled off the scratch division, while Derek Webster joined him as first time JBT champs, in exciting NM-TX Conference action at Silva Lanes. Frost had a memorable run up the scratch division stepladder, beginning with a 201 tie against Chris Brown in round one, which forced a rolloff that Jack won 10-8 to advance. Frost then rolled past early leader Roger Johnson 248-152, and stopped Nick Lee 216-212 in a tough semifinal to advance to the title game. Top seed Cameron Smith is building an incredible season, and also came in on a two-event winning streak. The finals also saw the debut of the 'endless tenth frame' format, where if a bowler struck on their fill ball, they had the chance to continue adding 10 pins per additional strike until they stopped striking, making no lead a shutout. In the title game, Cameron's good look in the early frames turned ugly with short counts in his final three frames, finishing at 190. Frost got the strike on his fill ball to finish the 'usual' tenth at 181, meaning his 'endless 10th' boiled down to simply striking to win and anything else to lose. As he did the whole stepladder when he needed it, Frost pured the shot for the strike, a thrilling 191-190 win, and the first title of his JBT career! Kory Hetmer opened up the 8-bowler handicap stepladder with a big 266, needing most of it to beat Jerimiah Cruz (238), and yesterday's champ Gerilynn Delagarito (240). Newcomer Jayden Johnson then fired 216 to edge Nicholas Ledoux (210) and Hetmer (171) to win round two. Jerimiah Martin then avenged yesterday's finals loss with a 241 game that beat Johnson (221) and Joey Balistreri (198) to reach the title game. Top seed Derek Webster took over in game five and cruised to the #1 spot from there, and pulled away in the late frames of the title match for a 189-164 win, good for the first JBT title of his career. Hannah Stedman defeated Alexis Atkin 214-148 to win the day's Impact Bowling Women's Series event, the first of three wins she'll need to qualify for the 2012 Girls TPC this summer. Thanks as always to the great staff at Silva for hosting our Tour. Over $1,400 in scholarships were earned by bowlers of all averages and ages- want in on all this fun? Check out our schedule and come down to the next JBT event, that's all there is to it!
