SOUTH POINT OVERNIGHTER

champ Oscar Chan & runner-up Jordan Katz
Oscar Chan earned a $600
scholarship as champion of the JBT Midnight Madness Overnight Marathon, hosted
by South Point Bowling Center.
Bowlers rolled six qualifying
games on the demanding 'turnpike' lane pattern, after which the top sixteen
bowlers advanced to triple-elimination matchplay. Zack Hattori easily
topped the field in qualifying, but struggled in matchplay, bowing out in 12th
place. Zack's first loss was to #16 Spenser Lilley, who remained
undefeated through four rounds of matchplay before hitting a slide that landed
him in eighth finishing position.
Starting Spenser's slide was #6
Curtis Lindeman, who got through six rounds undefeated before his look
deteriorated, eventually being eliminated in round eight by #3 Nick Lee.
Meanwhile in that round, #2 Chan was handed his second loss by #11 Jordan Katz,
who had cruised through with only one loss. Now with three bowlers left,
Katz earned a bye while Chan eliminated Lee, setting up a title match situation
where Oscar had to beat Jordan twice to win it all. Game one turned
into a runaway for Chan 222-183, and Katz was unable to recover in game two,
which Oscar won 216-177. The win is the second title of his JBT career,
first scratch, and the whopping $600 is his largest JBT paycheck.
Megan Carlson, a handicap regular
who almost made the scratch cut in this very tough field, won her third Impact
Bowling Women's Series event of the season with a 187-148 win over Alexis Atkin,
qualifying her for the 2012 Girls' TPC this summer. Steven
Villanueva fired 1343 for six games to win the adult side sweeper and a $282
cash prize.
Thanks as always to the crew at
South Point for making this a smooth event despite the unusual time slot, and
everyone who came out for some terrific overnight fun. Over $1,900 in
scholarships were earned- if you want in on the fun, check out ou schedule and
come on down to the next JBT event, that's all there is to it!
