KEYSTONE LANES

champs Jakob Butturff & Julian Zavala

Jakob Butturff reached a landmark title count, while Julian Zavala tasted victory for the first time, in exciting JBT Southern California Conference action at Keystone Lanes.

Kevin Jones began a climb up the scratch division stepladder finals by doubling in the tenth for a 225-223 win over Bobby Hornacek.  Jones then did it again, striking in the tenth for a 226-218 win over Eric Hatchett.  Isaiah Cleveland had a terrific day, but his semifinal match didn't go as well, as Jones beat him 231-157 to reach the title game.

Top seed Butturff just keeps on rolling, again grabbing the top seed, and looking to avenge a loss in the finals the previous day at Forest.  The game came down to the final frames, with Jakob hanging on for a 221-215 win.  It makes him just the 28th bowler in JBT history with 10 career titles!

Julian Zavala was simultaneously climbing the handicap stepladder, beginning with a 213-200 win over Trevor Thompson.  He then got by Randi Speiler 202-165, and then had a thriller with Michael Ma.  Needing spare-9 to win, Michael got spare-8, initiating a tiebreaker where Zavala came up with a triple that ousted Ma 58-34 and sent Julian to the title match against top seed- and more importantly- big brother Javier in an all-J. Zavala title match!

Matches between siblings always are a little different, and this one remained competitive throughout.  After Julian finished up, Javier needed a 20 fill in the tenth to tie.  He got the strike, but then missed a 4-pin on his next ball, giving Julian the thrilling 217-216 win, and his first career JBT title.

Marina Stever won the day's Impact Bowling Women's Series with a 223-167 win over Speiler, giving her the three wins she needs to qualify for the 2013 Girls TPC next summer.
