SUNSET LANES

champs Quinton Miller & Matthew Yaw

Two bowlers captured their first JBT singles titles in exciting Pacific Northwest Conference action at Beaverton's Sunset Lanes.

Brandon Myers earned the day's top seed in the scratch division with a fine +212 effort, meaning he got to 'pick everyone's poison', setting up the matchplay brackets as long as he stayed alive.  With only 14 matchplay advancers, he of course gave himself a bye, and then chose Zach Hemming in round two, who he beat 418-362 in a two-game match to advance to the final four.

In single game semifinal matches, Quinton Miller upset Myers 222-195, and Luke Jordan edged Connor Jackley 206-200, setting up the title match.  The finale proved to be a low scoring affair, but in the end Quinton had just enough for a 194-181 win over Jordan, and Miller claimed his first singles title, to go along with a Team event win in December.

Josh Alvarez continued his hot bowling of late by dominating the handicap division qualifying round, but he chose poorly in seeting up the brackets, as he didn't have the antidote for Elisa Couch, who came up huge in a 501-462 exciting two game win.  That left Kelsey Abrahamsen as the highest remaining seed, and she chose wisely, beating Brandon Drake 409-362 in round two to advance to the final four.  In that round  though, Kevin Obrist beat Kelsey 204-199 to move on to the final, while in the other semi Matthew Yaw beat Riley Basher in a high scoring match 250-235 to advance to face Kevin.

Just like the scratch title game, scores lowered in the final, perhaps with the pressure of the rare opportunity to win a JBT title on the line.  Obrist was unable to get untracked in the game, and Matthew took advantage with a 191-165 win, capturing his first career JBT title.

Makayla Douglas continued her dominance of the Pac NW Women's Series with a 204-126 win over Breanne Mattson to earn the day's title.

Thanks to the crew at Sunset for another great job hosting our Tour.  To get in on the fun and excitement, just come on down to the next JBT event!
