WEST SEATTLE BOWL

champs Jesse Covington & Brandon Jensen

In another unique JBT format, Jesse Covington and Brandon Jensen teamed up to win the 'Mix It Up!' event held at West Seattle Bowl.

After the usual five game qualifying round, the top scratch and top handicap bowler were partnered up, second with second, and so on, creating doubles teams, unusual partners, and a raucous atmosphere unlike the usual singles competition.  After three games of doubles matchplay, the top five teams advanced to a Baker-format stepladder finals.

The finals began with Daniel Hanson and Josh Alvarez defeating all-conference points leader Jakob Butturff and teammate Riley Basher 219-199.  Eddy Smith and Kelsey Abrahamsen then stepped in and defeated Hanson and Alvarez 225-201.  Covington and Jensen then stopped Smith and Abrahamsen 219-194 to move on to the title match.

The top seeded team of Brian Monnette and Jerry Jennings started to struggle midway through the title match, but fortunately for them Jesse and Brandon also slowed down, creating a late-game situation where it literally looked like the first mark was going to win.  As it turned out, Jesse's tenth frame spare did just that, as he and Brandon escaped with a 150-144 win, earning their first career JBT titles each.

In the day's Women's Series event, Courtney Nikolas beat points leader Makayla Douglas 204-168, earning her third Women's Series title of the year and locking up her spot in the Girls TPC this summer.

Thanks as always to the terrific crew at West Seattle Bowl for hosting our Tour.  Over $1,600 was earned by bowlers of all ages and averages- want in on the fun?  Come on down to the next JBT event, it's that simple!
