JBT ALUMNI TOURNAMENT

champs Lanndyn Carnate and KJ Martinez

Lanndyn Carnate and KJ Martinez captured titles in the annual JBT Alumni tournament, hosted by Bowlmor/AMF Christown.

Anyone who ever bowled in any of the previous 1,102 JBT events was eligible to bowl, and current JBT bowler Russ Oviatt began the scratch division stepladder finals with a 214-170 win over Austin Thompson.  Oviatt then beat fellow ASU teammate Ben Canfield 214-160.  In a high-scoring semifinal, Russ defeated 10-time champ David Sevier 247-231 to advance to the title game.

Top seed Carnate's JBT career ended with a bang last season with wins at the AZ Invitational, Summer Masters, and Desert Open.  He picked up where he left off, leading seven of the eight rounds here, and was able to cruise to a 227-182 title match win as well, good for the seventh title of his JBT career.

ASU bowling team supporter Gary Demeny became eligible by bowling in the previous day's Doubles event, won a thrilling double-rolloff against Ryanna Patterson for the final stepladder spot, then still had enough left in the tank for a 213-170 win over Las Vegas' Devyn Patalina to begin the handicap division finals.  Brooke Martinez then stopped Demeny's run with a 223-200 win.  Connor Lawarence then snuck by Martinez 178-174 to advance to the title game.

Top seed KJ Martinez has had a knack of doing well in bigger JBT events, and he did it again here, capturing the #1 spot.  Connor and KJ both performed well in the title game, but a late turkey from KJ keyed his 203-186 win, good for the 9th handicap title of his career, extending his lead in that category.

Thanks to the alumni from all 18 seasons of JBT who took the time to bowl with today's JBT bowlers, as well as to Pat Cook and the staff at Christown for hosting so many great JBT events over the years.  Want in on all the excitement?  Check out our schedule, and come on out to our next event, it's that simple!
