ISLETA FUN CONNECTION

champs Danny Cobine & Jonah Seawright

Danny Cobine and Jonah Seawright formed an unbeatable combo, climbing the ladder to JBT titles in the exciting 'mix it up' format at Isleta Fun Connection.

After the 5-game singles qualifying round, the top scratch and top handicap bowler combined to form a doubles team, second place with second, down through the 18 qualifiers.  After three matchplay games, five teams moved on to the stepladder finals.  Jonah and Danny began their climb with a 228-170 win over the Arizona/Texas combo of KJ Martinez and Kat Rush.    The biggest and littlest guys in the field, Brandon Russom and Jacob Lucero, bowled great to grab the #3 seed, but Cobine and Seawright stopped them 191-160.  The semifinal match proved to be the closest battle, as Jonah's tenth frame strike forced Sara Vargas to double in the tenth to win for hear and her partner Isaac Medore.  She couldn't get the strikes though, and Cobine and Seawright advanced with a 190-186 win.

Top seeds Cortez Schenck and Quirino Sanchez each dominated their divisions in qualifying, and were equally effective as a team in the semifinals to grab the #1 spot.  However, Schenck got stuck with 9-counts on apparent good hits, while Danny and Jonah remained steady throughout.  The end result was a 204-172 win for Cobine and Seawright.  Ironically, the last title for each bowler were singles wins at Starlight earlier this season, so perhaps it was meant to be for these talented teammates.

Sisters Sara and Sabrina Vargas were the top two seeds for the day's Women's Series event, and in this round of their battle, Sara struck in the tenth to seal a 189-183 win for the day's honors.

Thanks as always to the great crew at Isleta for hosting our event.  Want in on all this fun for all ages and averages? Just check out ours schedule and come on down, it's that simple!
