BRC KYRENE

champs Aaron Munyon & Jake Hilton

Aaron Munyon stopped the Schenck express in scratch, while success was spelled J-a-k-e in the handicap division, in exciting Arizona Conference action at Chandler's Kyrene Lanes.

In the event's exciting 'pick yer poison' format, the highest seeded bowlers choose who they want to bowl in matches, resulting in a wide variety of strategies and many exciting matches.  Munyon escaped from TJ Rock by only 4 pins in his opening round, two game total pinfall match, while Zach Martinez had one of the matches of the day against Nick Pollak, doubling in the tenth for a 379-371 win..  Both bowlers advanced through to face each other in the semifinals, where Munyon defeated Martinez 231-134.  The other semifinal was a terrific match on the tricky Baton Rouge pattern, with Cortez Schenck out-striking Bryan Van Sickle 257-232 to advance to yet another title match.

Cortez has been red-hot on Tour lately, but Aaron has had a wonderful 2014 as well, firing 299 and winning his first title.  He stayed in control the entire title match, staying clean as Schenck struggled on the left hand lane, and by the time Aaron slowed down it was too late for Tez.  Munyon won the match by a 195-181 final score, good for the second title of his JBT career.

Three handicap matches came down to the final frame in the handicap division's opening matchplay round, highlighted by Jake Hilton escaping from Max Polhill 435-427, and Jake Tucker's 12-pin escape over Gillian Coyle.  Both Jakes made it to the semifinals, and in those matches Tucker edged Ryanna Patterson 189-184, while Hilton and Jerod Walker tied at 210, with Hilton winning the rolloff to set up an all-Jake title match.

Tucker closed the gap against Hilton with a late-frame turkey, but a tenth frame open sealed his fate.  Hilton's resulting 217-201 win was good for the third title of his JBT career.

Adel Wahner capped off an excellent weekend with a win over Brittany Kolatzny to sweep the weekend's Women's Series events.  She also finished 4th and 7th in the main tournaments.

Thanks as always to the crew at Kyrene, still great hosts after 17 seasons of JBT fun.  Want in on all this excitement for all averages?   Just check out our schedule and come on down, that's all there is to it!
