MIRA MESA LANES

champs Ben Canfield & Michaela Buhain

Ben Canfield swept the weekend, while Michaela Buhain swept the handicap field on the way to her first win, in exciting JBT Southern California Conference action at Mira Mesa Lanes.

Isaiah Cleveland grabbed the lead after five games, but Canfield, who snuck in as the #9 seed, dispatched him in round two of 2-game matchplay.  #2 seed Luke Holley also fell, as #10 Kirk Chui pulled off the upset.  Ben an Kirk each won their semifinal games, against Matt Zweig and Harley Sweigart respectively, to set up the title match.

Chui hasn't won since switching from handicap to scratch, but has been throwing the ball better and better, and had his chance in the tenth frame to double for the win.  Kirk struck on the first ball, but a high hit on the second shot didn't carry, and Canfield claimed the 224-218 win, 14th career title, and a sweep of the weekend to pick up a lot of points in the scratch standings.

Marguerite Evans continued her good bowling from Main Event to lead the field here after five games.  She then beat Shauna Schultz and Leah Zweig to get to the title match.  Michaela Buhain emerged from the other side of the bracket, beating previous day's champ James McGough and Brandon Loss to set up a 1 vs. 2 title match game.

Buhain is having a successful rookie season, while Marguerite is a JBT veteran who has been oh-so-close to that elusive first title a few times.  Unfortunately for Evans, a few missed spares in the title game spelled her doom (resulting in the picture below), and Buhain took advantage for a 214-185 win, and her first career JBT title.

Sarah Schneider, another up and coming female, won her first Women's Series title with a 202-166 win over Courtney Schultz, getting her one-third of the way to the Girls TPC this July.

Thanks as always to the terrific crew at Mira Mesa for hosting our Tour.  Want in on all the fun?  Check out our schedule and come on down, that's all you have to do!
