SILVER NUGGET

champs Dallas Leong & Jopfel Gafate

Dallas Leong and Jopfel Gafate earned JBT titles in exciting Mojave Conference action at Dan Nadeau's Silver Nugget.

Nick Pollak began the scratch division stepladder finals with a thrilling 205-204 win over Eric Hatchett.  Leong then took over, beating Pollak 221-191, and following with a 210-200 squeaker over Zach Martinez to move on to the title match.

The good news for top seed Cortez Schenck is that he has 19 titles at just 15 years old.  The bad news is that this is his sixth title match since his last victory.  Unfortunately for Cortez, the streak was destined to continue, as Dallas bowled a confident game, winning 234-211 for his second JBT title, having won his first way back in 2011!

Sebastian Polhill began a climb up the handicap division stepladder with a 207-203 win over April McDonnell.  Polhill then topped Talon Hendrickson 201-168, and kept on rolling with a 228-208 win over Alexis Atkin to reach the title match.

Top seed Jopfel Gafate had been the top seed in matchplay formats a few times before with bad results, so he was likely relieved to lead an event in a stepladder format.  However, Polhill is no stranger to JBT success, having won an event at 8 years old, and enjoying his best result since moving to Arizona from Washington last year.  The title match remained close the whole way, but in the end Jopfel had just enough to win 227-220, finally earning his first career JBT title.

Alexis Atkin won her second Women's Series match of the weekend, again defeating Randi Speiler, this time by a 194-164 margin to win her 4th Womens's Series event of the season.

Thanks to Dan Nadeau and his team at Nugget for hosting us, as well as for the contribution to the day's prize fund that allowed $300 to be awarded for first in each division!  Want in on all this excitement?  Just check out our schedule and come on down, that's all there is to it!
