THE ORLEANS

champs Cortez Schenck & Brandon Russom

Cortez Schenck kept on his latest red-hot winning streak, while Brandon Russom tasted JBT victory for the first time, in exciting Mojave Conference action at The Orleans.

Kyle Duster began the scratch division stepladder finals with a 263-172 win over Dallas Leong.  Duster's look then deteriorated, and Eric Hatchett, who had led most of the tournament, took advantage for a 209-165 round two win.  In the semifinals, both bowler's looks fell apart, and Bobby Hornacek escaped with a 156-139 win to move on to the title match.

Schenck took over the lead with a big 752 semifinal set on the tricky 'winding road' lane pattern, and quickly built a big lead against Hornacek that Bobby could not recover from.  In the end, Cortez won 234-204, good for the 25th win of his JBT career.  At just fourteen years old, this win ties him with Kris George for sixth on the all-time JBT titles list.

Brendan Lindsey opened up he handicap division stepladder finals with a 209-173 win over Paul Colyer.  Lefty-by-choice Jeremy Cardines then defeated Lindsey 225-210.  Jake Hilton then continued his excellent season, stopping Cardines 224-181 to advance to yet another title game.

Russom regained the top seed in a back and forth day after a big game eight, but found himself in a tough battle against a determined Hilton.  Brandon's tenth frame mark forced a double from Jake, and when Hilton couldn't get the first hit, Russom claimed his first career JBT title with the 218-213 result.

Correen Lieber won the day's Women's Series event with a 190-169 win over Janelle Takahata, extending her lead in Women's Series points.
