SECOMA LANES

champs Josh Mullen & Daniel Rutter

Josh Mullen and Daniel Rutter opened the 2013-14 JBT season with exciting victories at Secoma Lanes.

Eddy Smith began the scratch division finals with a big 258-231 win over Tyler Boe in round one.  Despite it being a low overall scoring day, the big scoring continued in round two, as Brian Monnette stopped Smith 258-218.   Brian kept it up in the semifinals, beating up on birthday boy Thomas Nute 266-233 to advance to the title match against top seed Josh Mullen.

It had been a bizarre day for Monnette.  He started the day at a blistering pace, opening up with 829 for his first three.  However, he slowed down dramatically with only 695 for his final four games to lose the lead, only to power back up with 522 for his two stepladder games!  Both he and Mullen have struggled in previous title matches, but after a mid-game solid 8, Mullen strung strikes off the sheet, resulting in a 246-204 win, and his third career JBT title.

The handicap division stepladders began with another one of our 'Venus and Serena' matches, as twins Kevin and Kyle Obrist went at it, with Kyle coming up with the 222-192 win.  8 year-old Jayden Burnside then beat Obrist 193-152.  Newcomer Rutter then beat Burnside 232-210 to move on to the title game.

Top seed Tyler Hogstrom had taken over the tournament with a big game four and never looked back.  However, Rutter was gaining confidence with every shot, and outscored Tyler 261-219 for the win and the title, the first of his JBT career.

Correen Lieber earned the first Women's Series title of the new season with a tough 190-187 win over Courtney Nikolas.  Girls need 3 wins to qualify for the 2014 Girls TPC at the end of the season.

Thanks to the team at Secoma for hosting us once again.  Want in on the best fun around?  Check out our schedule and come on down!
