SKIDZ

champs Cortez Schenck & Nick Barrett

Cortez Schenck and Nick Barrett wrapped up the NM-TX Conference regular season with exciting wins at the new SkidZ in Albuquerque.

Derek Acuff began a climb up the scratch division stepladder with a 208-169 win over Jacob Gill.  Acuff then turned it up in a 246-183 win over Ben Stedman.  The always tough Danny Cobine then halted Acuff 228-215 to advance to the title match.

Top seed Schenck blasted 782 in the semifinals to run away from the field.  After a foul to start the title match, Cortez quickly regrouped with a 5-bagger that left no doubt as to the eventual result.  The 226-171 final score was good for the 34th title of his JBT career.

Lacey Shelton and Jacob Marquis opened the handicap division stepladder finals with a high-scoring match, with Lacey coming away with the 244-235 win.  Andrea Griego then slowed down Shelton with a 183-166 win.  Barrett then turned the tables on Griego with a 217-205 win to advance to the title match.

Top seed Aileen Linares bowled great all day en route to making a top five, let alone lead a JBT event, for the first time.  It was also Barrett's first finals.  After a nervous start, Linares got back in the match in the second half.  Barret, meanwhile, couldn't find the strike line, but just kept on sparing, eventually making 9 of 10 spares and needing every one of them in a 226-223 win, earning the first title of his JBT career.

Correen Lieber continued a torrid spring with a 182-147 win over Sophie Diaz (who led the first four rounds of the main tournament) to capture the day's Women's Series title.  Correen now owns the amazing stat of at least one Women's Series title in every Conference this season!

Thanks as always to the crew at Skidz for a great job hosting us- the newly remodeled facility looks great, with plenty more to come!  100 qualifiers  and 12 girls now advance to the NM-TX Invitational and Girls Invitational, with over $5,000 on the line!
