SOUTH PLAINS LANES

champs Zach Wojciechowksi & Morgan Ellis

Morgan Ellis won her second title, while a hometown star finally cashed in for his first, in exciting JBT New Mexico-Texas Conference action at Lubbock's South Plains Lanes.

Jacob Gill bowled very well on the tough pattern to grab the scratch division's top seed for matchplay, but after a win over Ahkeen Williams, Zach Wojciechowski stopped him 194-189 in the semifinals.  On the other side of the bracket, previous day's champion and #2 seed Mason Edmondson got past Adel Wahner and then escaped a semifinal thriller over John Ellis to reach the title match again.

After a great start to the title game, Wojciechowski appeared to be in trouble after an open ninth frame.  However, Mason uncharacteristically gave the match right back, finishing with back to back 3-7-9 splits which he couldn't convert.  Zach's resulting 216-192 win gave him a long awaited first career JBT title.

Noah Martinez had an excellent qualifying round to earn the #1 seed for matchplay, but after a close win over Isziah Zuni, 9 year-old Kayla Darling stopped him in the semifinals, sending the youngster to her first title game.  #2 seed Ellis had better luck in her half of the draw, beating Shauna Schultz and Lacey Shelton to move on to the final game.

High-handicap bowlers such as Darling are hard to beat when the lanes are tough, but Ellis, the current Invitational champ, was up to the task, rolling a confident game in a 225-197 win over Darling, earning her the second title of her JBT career.

Adel Wahner officially qualified for the Girls TPC with her third Women's Series win of the season, beating Sophie Diaz (who, with Adel, also made the regular scratch cut) 192-167.

Zach also was the biggest winner in the galaxy-famous JBT Easter Egg Hunt, winning an Ebonite ball. Dozens of other prizes were also claimed by lucky bowlers.  Huge thanks to Jim and the crew at South Plains for hosting us, as well as the center for making a contribution that helps make this event possible.  Want in on all the excitement?  Just check out our schedule and come on down!
