SURF BOWL

champs Wesley Low & Seth Meyer

Wesley Low kept on winning, while Seth Meyer was a 'survivor' in the truest sense of the word, both capturing JBT titles in exciting Southern California Conference action at Oceanside's Surf Bowl.

In the survivor format, after five games of qualifying, an equal number of bowlers are put on each pair, with the lowest score on each pair eliminated each game.  The scratch division was eventually carved down to four bowlers, and in those semifinal matches Wesley Low beat Kyle Duster 248-197, while Derek Acuff defeated Kennison Andrews 198-157, setting up yet another title match between the two talented lefthanders.

In previous games between the two, Low has really had Acuff's number.  Unfortunately for Derek, it was the same story this time, as Low stayed in control the entire match, eventually winning 224-206, good for his 16th career JBT title.

Handicap qualifiers were also eventually whittled down to four, and in the resulting semifinal matches Jozef Corwin got by Israel Ramirez 187-173, and in the other semi Seth Meyer got the 9-count he needed on the fill ball for a dramatic 209-208 win, setting up the title match.

Both finalists struggled to mark in the latter half of the game as they tried to win their first career JBT titles.  After Meyer finished his tenth frame, Corwin, needing a 20 fill to tie, appeared to have his hopes dashed with a 5-10 split.  However, Corwin converted the very tough shot, but when he only got 9 on his fill ball, Meyer earned his second straight one-pin win, this time 197-196, and a memorable first title.

Alexis Atkin and Randi Speiler often find themselves in Women's Series title matches, and they went at again here.  This time, Alexis earned a 192-184 victory and the day's Women's Series title.

Thanks to Dawn and the crew at Surf Bowl for a great job hosting our events, and to our terrific sponsors who contributed a significant extra amount to the day's prize fund, with $300 to each winner.  Want in on all this fun and excitement?  Check out our schedule and come on down to the next JBT event, it's that simple!
