BRC TRI-CITY

champs Cortez Schenck & Elijah Melchor

Cortez Schenck reached yet another milestone, while Elijah Melchor tasted victory for the first time, in exciting Arizona Conference JBT action at Brunswick Tri-City Bowl.

Eight scratch bowlers advanced to the pick-your-poison matchplay rounds, where higher seeds choose who they want to bowl in 2-game pinfall matches.  Top seed Schenck cruised by Keith Fung 439-379, #2 seed Jakob Butturff got by Sean Trzaskowski 451-337, Ben Canfield edged Derek Acuff 431-407, and Bryan Van Sickle upset Dallas Leong 404-381.

Down to single game semifinal matches, Schenck beat Van Sickle 205-171, and Butturff stopped Canfield 212-158, setting up a title match between the two most decorated active JBT bowlers.  In that match, Schenck had the better look, and his 216-171 win earned him the 40th title of his JBT career, only the third bowler to reach that lofty level, and only two wins behind #2 all-time Steven Black.

In the handicap division, Joseph Metzer earned the top seed, and picked his poison well, defeating Dante Rohe 393-336 in the round of 16.   He had no trouble in the next round either, beating Kyle Ponzo 441-360.  Down to single game semifinal matches, Metzer edged Anastasia Hurley 173-168, while in the other match, newcomer Elijah Melchor got past veteran Marguerite Evans 197-184 to advance to face Joseph for the title.

Melchor saved his high game of the tournament for the title match, stopping Metzer's roll 225-186, earning Elijah the first title of his JBT career.

Rachel Francone won her first Women's Series title of her career, defeating Gillian Coyle 167-144 for the first of three wins she needs to qualify for the Girls TPC next summer.
