CAL BOWL

champs Anthony Cando & Dustin Yauney

Anthony Cando and Dustin Yauney earned JBT titles in exciting So Cal Conference action at Lakewood's Cal Bowl.

Cortez Schenck began the scratch division stepladder finals with a 255-171 win over Eric Hatchett.  Cando then eliminated Schenck in a very high scoring 258-244 battle.  Scores stayed high in the semifinal, as Cando topped Joe Grondin 248-232 to reach the title game.

Top seed Zack Long earned the #1 spot for the first time in the scratch division, after earning all-conference Bowler of the Year in the handicap division last season.  He couldn't maintain the momentum he built up all day though, and Cando finally claimed his first career JBT title with a 223-176 win.

Justin Patten opened the handicap division stepladder finals with a 229-216 win over last month's champ Joey Queller.  Patten then stopped Renee Gentry 209-191.  8 year-old Katelyn Abigania then defeated Patten 219-172 to advance to the title match.

Abigania had turned heads all day long with a performance well beyond her years, but she ran into a buzzsaw in top seed Dustin Yauney, who seems to love Cal Bowl.  After winning the Invitational here last year, he roared to the top seed here, and held off Abigania 227-219 for the title, the second of his JBT career.

Gentry avenged her loss in the main tournament with a 182-178 win over Amanda Atkin to earn the day's Women's Series title.

Thanks to to the whole team at Cal for another great job hosting our Tour.  Want in on the fun for all ages and averages?  Just check out our schedule and come on down!
