CANYON LANES

champs Joe Grondin & Alberto Bernal

In an extremely high scoring event, Joe Grondin and Alberto Bernal outlasted the field to capture JBT titles in exciting JBT action at Canyon Lanes.

Eric Hatchett had the front nine strikes twice to grab the top seed, then found himself in a battle against Anthony Cando, who had one of the event's perfect 300 games (without any mulligans) in the semifinals.  In the combination endless tenth-mulligan format, Eric finally outlasted Anthony to reach the title match.  Grondin, meanwhile, didn't have any of the huge scores on the day, but stayed consistent in wins over Sergio Torres, Kyle Andrews, and Harley Sweigart to reach the final.  Sweigart could be forgiven for running out of steam, as he had just survived a totally wild 549-547 win (in TWO) games over Ryan Lee, where it looked like Harley's 280-front eight performance wouldn't be enough!

In the title game, Eric couldn't get the left hand lane locked in, and when his first endless tenth frame shot didn't carry, Grondin locked up the win and his fourth career JBT title.

Alberto Bernal used his first career 300 game (almost simultaneous with Cando's) to grab the handicap division top seed, then rolled through his matches to get to the finals.  His opponent, #10 Jake Hansen, had a much rougher road, but survived when he needed to to get to his first singles final, having won the Doubles in November.   Bernal was in control through the first half of the title game, but Hansen made a brilliant comeback in the second half.   Jake needed a tenth frame double to complete the comeback, but when he couldn't get it, a relived Bernal claimed his first career JBT victory on a career day for him

The Women's Series wrapped up with excitement and strikes of their own, as Kylie Shishima blasted a mulligan-free 300 game, the first of her career, to win the day's girls scratch title over top seed Kaylee Am-Khong.

Thanks as always to the team at Canyon for hosting our Tour.  Want in on all this fun for all averages?  Just check out our schedule and come on down!
