AMF McRAY

champs Derek Acuff, Rachael Berg, & Caden Duff

Two veterans and an almost-rookie claimed JBT titles in exciting Arizona Conference action at AMF McRay Lanes in Chandler.

Bowlers in both divisions bowled in two game head to head matchplay after the five game qualifying round.  Cortrez Schenck grabbed the qualifying lead and, after a bye, had no trouble against Eric Hatchett, but Russ Oviatt had otyer ideas in the semifinal, defeaing Schenck to move on to the final.  On the other side of the bracket, Derek Acuff blasted 505 for two to win round two, then slid by Kyle Duster in the semifinal to set up a very veteran title match.

Despite being 7th on our all-time titles list, Acuff has had his share of misfortunes in title matches, but this was not to be one of them as he dominated from the start, cruising to a 258-180 win over Oviatt for the 27th title of his excellent JBT career.

Mark Sauve led qualifying in the handicap division, but #16 Daryus Alo, who just squeezed into the cut, pulled off the upset in round one.  Alo would carry that momentum on through matchplay, beating Ryan Zent and Lucas Rabb (with an amazing 4-9 conversion in the tenth!) to get to the finals.  Meanwhile, Caden Duff, a bowler with east coast roots appearing in only his second JBT weekend,  rolled through his matches to advance against Alo for the title.

It looked like Daryus was going to pull off the16th-to-1st bracket sweep, but a tenth frame missed spare proved fatal.  The error was just enough to give Duff a 204-201 win, and his first career JBT title.

In the day's girls title match, points leader Adel Wahner faced off again against Rachael Berg, this time with Berg emerging victorious by a 211-175 margin for the win.

Thanks as always to the team at McRay for hosting our Tour, and to all of Jerod's helpers for making the day flow smoothly.  Want in on the best bowling fun and excitement for all ages and averages?  Just check out our schedule and come on down!
