WINNETKA BOWL

champs Sergio Torres & Gael Egana

Sergio Torres and Gael Egana captured JBT titles in exciting So Cal Conference action at Winnetka Bowl.

After the qualifying round, bowlers competed in head to head matchplay.  Up and coming talent Solomon Salama led the scratch division qualifier, but ran into a red-hot Jacob Camacho in round two to bowl out in fifth.  Camacho then beat Kyle Andrews to get to the title match.  On the other side of the matchplay bracket, Torres stopped WSU freshman star Wesley Low, and then Bowler of the Year candidate Joe Grondin to advance against Camacho for the title.

Sergio was able to cruise in the title match, and after many close calls finally broke through for that elusive first scratch division championship with the win over Grondin.

In the handicap division, previous day's champ Renee Gentry was at it again, cruising past Brittany Bland, Louis Luna, and Michaela Buhain to reach her second consecutive title match.  On the bottom side of the bracket, Gael Egana's wins over Jeff Rodda and Marc Villalobos sent him to the title game.

Though much younger than Gentry, Egana has more title match experience, and knows how to win when he gets the chance.  His 204-188 win over Renee denied Gentry back to back titles, and earned Gael his 3rd career JBT victory.

Brittany Kolatzny, one of many So Cal ladies returning home from college for the summer, dominated the qualifying round of the day's girls event, then defeated Michaela Buhain in the title match for the day's women's win.
