AMF CHRISTOWN

champs Keith Fung & Elijah Melchor; U17 champ Christian Caron, Girls champ Brittany Kolatzny

Keith Fung and Elijah Melchor put on impressive shows in collecting JBT titles in exciting Arizona Conference action at AMF Christown Lanes in Phoenix.

Tyler Boe opened up the scratch division stepladder finals with a low scoring but exciting 164-163 win over Tim Jacob.  Harley Sweigart then stopped Boe 214-183.  Cortez Schenck then turned the tables on Harley with a 247-214 win to advance to the title match.

Top seed Fung had one of his best JBT performances ever, leading the event since game two, and looked to run away with the finale as well with the front six strikes.  However, some big splits let Cortez back in the game, and it took a tenth frame mark from Keith to finally lock up a 226-211 win, good for the fourth title of his JBT career.

Elijah Melchor put an unprecedented 12-match winning streak in stepladder finals games on the line by qualifying 5th here.  No problem, all he did was run the ladder, throwing all the key shots he needed to all afternoon long.  He began with a 203-187 win over Gavin Holter, who made the top 5 both days on the weekend.  Elijah then beat Zackery Koterman 198-177, and followed with an exciting 243-237 win over Corbin Hirsch to reach the title game.

Top seed Christian Caron had his best JBT performance by far in leading the event, but in a close match, Melchor came up with a 214-206 win, earning his 6th career JBT title, and extending his amazing stepladder matchplay streak to 16 wins in a row!

Caron was consoled by earning the day's U17 victory with a win over Cristian Roque, while Brittany Kolatzny kept up her outstanding results in the Girls Scratch side event with a win over Annie Hurley for the day's crown.
