RED ROCK LANES

champs Cortez Schenck & Shawn Seng Jr (center) with girls winner Kaylee Am-Khong and U17-girls finalist Samantha Conti

Cortez Schenck swept the weekend, while Shawn Seng Jr swept his way to the top of an important chart, in exciting JBT Mojave conference action at Las Vegas' incredible Red Rock Lanes.

After five games, bowlers competed in head to head matchplay with important early-season double points on the line.   14 scratch bowlers were carved down to four, and in those semifinals, Schenck bested Kyle Reed 199-152, while John Newton edged Austin Muldoon 193-190 to set up the title match.  Neither bowler could get a string going in the first half of the title game, but when Cortez finally got some 4-pins to carry, he rolled to a 226-195 win and his 82nd career title, in addition to a sweep of the season opening weekend.

12 year-old Samantha Conti averaged over 200 to lead the qualifying round, but was upset by #16 Dominic Olivares in matchplay.  #2 Shawn Seng then beat Olivares, and then got past 8 year-old Gage Baker, son of PBA star Mark, in the semifinals.  On the other side of the bracket, Trevyr Geronimo advanced to the finals with a big 261-218 win over Brandon Duffy to set up the title match.

Both Seng and Geronimo were in their first title match, but perhaps Shawn took notes from his brother Alex, who won his first JBT title in Flagstaff last month, as he was brilliant in the finale just like Alex was.  Countering Trevyr's fine 221 with a big 268, he cruised to his first career JBT title with the win.

Conti appeared in both side event title matches as well, but Shawn beat her in the U-17 event 217-181, and Kaylee Am-Khong fired 245 to beat her for the day's girls scratch win.

Big thanks to Eric and the whole team at Red Rock for another great job hosting our Tour.  Want in on all the fun for all ages?  Just come on out to the next JBT event, that's all there is to it!
