WHITEWOOD LANES

champs Harley Sweigart & Donius Jeffries II; Girls and U17 winners Vanessa Romero & Daniel Hall

In a day jam-packed with excitement, Harley Sweigart and Donius Jeffries emerged with big double-points victories in JBT NM-TX Conference action at Whitewood Lanes in Lubbock.

Josh Demick, who earlier electrified the crowd with a 300 game on the challenging Mexico City pattern, his first ever perfect game, continued his outstanding day with a195-193 win over Matteo Bergonzi to open the scratch division stepladder finals.  He then escaped from Chris Ortega 215-203 in round two when Chris missed a tenth frame 10-pin.  Demick's run ended in the semifinal, as Harley Sweigart, on a roll of his own, beat Josh 239-192 to advance to the title game for the second straight day.

Top seed Zach Harvey had one of his best JBT performances of his career, leading most of the day, and lapping the field en route to the #1 spot.  The title match couldn't have started worse, though, with three of four opens while Sweigart cooly ran the front six.  Zach rebounded brilliantly to strike out from there,  but Harley stayed nearly mistake free, and teh 249-227 result was good for the 21st title of his JBT career, taking two of three events on the weekend tripleheader.

Jay Heffer began the handicap stepladder finals with a 222-212 win over John Green, who was plagued by solid 9-pins throughout.  Jay then got by Californian Avery Domaguin 218-189, but it was still a memorable weekend for the youngster with 2nd and 4th place finishes.  Matt Ross then squeezed by Heffer 208-204 to advance to the title match.

Donius Jeffries II finished third in the scratch event Saturday night, and kept up the scratch-worthy performance here, cruising to the top seed.  Ross started the title match hot, but Jeffries rattled off the last nine strikes to roar past Ross 287-237, good for the fourth title of his JBT career and a huge double points win in his bid for back to back Bowler of the Year awards.

All of that excitement would be plenty for any regular event, but it was trumped by Brad Harvey going 10-7-5 to win the PowerBowl jackpot and a cool $1,000 scholarship bonus!

Daniel Hall won his 7th U17 side event of the season by beating Jeffries, while Vanessa Romero earned Girls Scratch win #4 with a win over birthday girl Yarelis Alvarez.

Huge thanks to the team at Whitewood for a great job hosting our Tour.  Want in on this unmatched fun for everyone?  Check out our schedule and come on down!
