PAC NW INVITATIONAL

Do Hoon Kwon, Kailee Wilcox, Tai Garrett, Bud Sicard, Ashton Yamasaki, Piper Chalmers

Bud Sicard and DoHoon Kwon earned $1,000 scholarships as champions of the 2020 Pac NW Invitational tournament, hosted by Triangle Bowl in Longview.  $5,069 in scholarships were eared by all skill levels and ages.

After a low scoring qualifying round, scores picked up in the triple elimination matchplay finals.  After seven rounds, only five of the sixteen finalists remained.  in that round Sicard earned a bye, while Ashton Yamasaki eliminated Duncan Whitaker (who earlier fired a 299 game, the event's best), and Tyler Coates eliminated Makana Wong.   The trio then began a rotation of byes and matches, which eventually ended with Tyler needing to beat Bud twice for the title.  A thriller between two of the best in the northwest ended in a 279-257 win for Bud, and his fifth career title to cap off a Bowler of the Year season.

Eight rounds whittled the sixteen handicap finalists down to four.  In round nine, Kwon ousted Lailani Wallin, and Kailee Wilcox eliminated top seeded Tai Garrett, setting up a scenario where Wilcox had to beat Kwon twice to take the title.  DoHoon had been dominant in match play, but Kailee won the first game, setting up a deciding game.  Kwon responded with a 246 scratch game to beat Wilcox and claim his 5th career title, wrapping up a convincing Bowler of the Year campaign.

Piper Chalmers beat Jessica Holbrook for the Girls Scratch Invitational win, enough to boost her to Bowler of the Year in that subdivision.  The U17 finale between Bud and Ashton was entertaining and ended in a 247 tie, with Yamasaki winning the rolloff 10-8 for the crown.

Huge thanks to Beau and the team at the gorgeously upgraded Triangle Bowl for their usual great hosting job.  The top 20 in scratch and handicap points now move on to the Touring Players Championship in Vegas in July!  Season 26 of the JBT begins in late August, spread the word about upcoming events and see you soon!
