MOJAVE INVITATIONAL
champs and finalists
Youth was served at the JBT Mojave Invitational, with Ezekiel Trejo and Noah Dang emerging as champions, in tremendous action at Henderson's Strike Zone at Sunset Station.
Trejo, just 13 years old, used a 299 game on the challenging Autobahn pattern to qualify first for triple-elimination matchplay. He went 4-0 to start, and when in round eight he eliminated Elias O'Hollaren in fourth, and #9 Nathan Harnit eliminated #6 Gage Baker, it left a scenario with Trejo needing to beat Nathan twice for the title. Ezekiel won a close first game to set up the finale, which saw both talented players throwing good shots but not able to string. Harnit finished on the left lane which had been giving him fits, and when a perfect 11th frame shot left a brutal solid-8, Trejo now needed strike-spare to win. Ezekiel calmly stepped up and got the double, adding a second Invitational to his resume, having won the handicap Invite at Suncoast in 2022!
Dang was the story in handicap. He barely squeezed into the Invite field with a good performance the previous day, but pulled a muscle in his side at the end of the day. He fought through that to the #3 seed for matchplay, and then proceeded to race through the field undefeated, with may less-than-10 pin wins. In round eight, he gave Skyler Chaney her second loss, and in round nine he eliminated Maurice Boston-Sand, leaving only Skyler standing with the unenviable task of having to beat Noah three times to swipe the title away. In yet another close match, Noah came up with yet another win, earning (as did Trejo) the $1,000 top prize with the title.
Paityn Gaines came on strong this spring, and beat Kendall Bollea for the Girls title as well as finishing 4th in handicap. U17 went to Jeremy Morris, with a win over Trejo in an entertaining match. Top season long point scorers now advance to the Touring Players Championship, our most prestigious event!.
