PAC NW INVITATIONAL
champs and finalists
Henry Hind defended his title, while Maddie Rowe picked up her first, as champions of the 2025 JBT Pacific Northwest Invitational tournament, hosted by Longview’s Triangle Bowl.
After five qualifying games on a demanding pattern, sixteen bowlers in each division advanced to nerve-wracking triple elimination matchplay. Nobody managed to average 200 (after seventeen bowlers averaged 220+ in qualifying the day before), but Hind’s -21 total just edged Jake Sale’s -24 for the #1 seed. From there it was all Henry, as he cruised through seven rounds with only one loss. That loss was to Nathan Harnit, making his third Invite cut this season, but Hind got his revenge in round eight, eliminating Harnit in fourth. Simultaneously, #16 Do Hoon Kwon eliminated #8 Szylas Totman, setting up a scenario with Kwon needing to win twice to take the title away from Henry. Either way, history would be made, as either Do Hoon would become, amazingly, the fourth bowler this season to win a scratch Invite after previously winning a handicap Invite, or Hind would pull the rare defense of an Invite title. In the end, it was no contest as Henry continued his day-long dominance by winning the first game and the title, the 5th of his JBT career, and $1,000 top scholarship prize.
In the handicap division, Teagyn McMillen continued a strong weekend by qualifying first, but struggled in matchplay and ousted in round four. #2 Rowe fared much better, getting through round seven with only one loss, then eliminating all-conference points leader Harvey Howe in round eight. In the same round, #4 Ella Schaffner stayed alive by giving #9 Cameron Schneider his second loss. Cameron was in line for the next bye though, and watched as Rowe eliminated Schaffner, setting a scenario with Cameron needing to win two straight against Maddie to take the title. He was up to the task in game one forcing a decider, and in that game Rowe turned the tables, coming up with the win, and ending a long journey to her first career JBT title and $1,000 windfall.
Piper Chalmers beat Laelah Tiquia for the Girls Scratch Invite title, while Hind beat Sale for the U17 crown. Danny Chalmers and Madilynn Pollock held on to their points lead going into the event earning Bowler of the Year honors. The top 20 in season-long points now move on to the Touring Players Championship, where they will compete against the best of the entire Tour for the most prestigious title of the year!
