TOURNAMENT of ALL-TIME CHAMPS & NON-CHAMPS
champs and finalists
Four talented bowlers added a major JBT title to their collections, while four more became non-champs no longer, in exciting action at the JBT Tournament of all-time champs and non-champs, hosted by Phoenix’s Let It Roll Bowl.
The ‘scratch champs’ division featured anyone who has ever won a JBT event, creating a high-octane field full of winners of all ages. The finals featured 2 adults and 2 youth, and in round one 23-time champ Ben Canfield eliminated 2025 Mountain Invite champ Aiden Ruiz-Jimenez 235-206. Gage Baker, this season’s So Cal Invite champ, then stopped Ben, coach of the terrific GCU program, 225-188, to reach the title match. Another GCU coach and JBT champ, Matt Adragna, awaited as the top seed, and the two put on an outstanding intergenerational final. Needing a strike to win in the tenth on the very demanding lane condition, Baker flushed a brilliant double for the title. It continues a breakthrough season for Gage, now a 9-time JBT champion thanks to the stellar performance.
Alex Rosenblum began an attempt to remove the ‘non-champ’ from his resume with a 211-178 win over Ryan Doyle to begin that stepladder. Jason Gootzeit then stopped Rosenblum to advance to the title match. Both Jason and top seed Jadeyn Mabry have a handicap JBT title, but had yet to taste scratch victory. Mabry, home from a standout freshmen year with KJ Martinez’ William Paterson team, rolled a clean 199, which would have won a lot of games on the tough pattern. But Gootzeit was up to the challenge, blasting a 233 to finally eliminate the ‘can’t believe he hasn’t won’ label, and join the JBt scratch champs club.
Handicap non-champs began their stepladder with Aiden Cheney’s 226-180 win over Sherrie Judd. RJ Grace the stopped Cheney 196-157 to move on the title game. Top seed Sara Lynnes- Andrew’s sister- had the high game of her life, and lots of other good ones to, en route to the #1 spot. She couldn’t find the line in the final though, and RJ, who’s been on Tour for a while, had his breakthrough moment, winning the match over Lynne and finally becoming a JBT champion!
In the handicap chak mps’ stepladder, 7 year-old Harvey Howe, who locked up all-conference Bowler of the Year the day before, kept up his preternaturally great season with a win over Drake Wilkin 197-169. Skyler Chaney, who often bowls with Harvey in qualifying, finally put a stop to Howe 229-186 (Harvey forgives her) to advance to the title game. Top seed Peyton Lee, recovered from a bad hip injury, bowled great to grab the #1 spot, and fearlessly played a far outside like, with the risk that came with two gutters more than outweighed by seven strikes in the other frames, earning the win over Chaney for her third career JBT title.
Big thanks as always to Stacy and the Let It Roll crew for always being welcoming hosts, as well as the alumni who took the time to come back and bowl with today’s amazing kids. The T of C / non-C will return to Let It Roll in 2026 with a whole new batch of champs going for the win!
