MOJAVE INVITATIONAL

champs Cameron Sager & Channing Lawrence
Cameron Sager and Channing Lawrence earned $1,000 scholarships each as champions of the 2026 JBT Mojave Conference Invitational tournament, hosted by Strike Zone at Sunset Station.
After qualifying, advancers competed in thrilling triple elimination matchplay. In the scratch division, Sager earned the top seed, and cruised through six rounds with only one loss. In that round, he gave Chason Hou his second loss, while Jon Abigania eliminated his big sister Katelyn, and Louis Cloud eliminated Gavin Fernandez (for the second time, as he also beat him earlier for the U17 title). In the next round, Sager eliminated Fernandez and Abigania eliminated Hou in a heartbreaker, setting up a finale where Jon had to win twice to take the title. Sager was not in a giving mood, continuing his day long dominance with a win in the first game to wrap up the title. It’s his second overall but long awaited first scratch JBT win!
In the handicap division, it was #6 seed who had the hot hand in matchplay, getting through seven rounds with only one loss. In the ensuing round, she eliminated Cayson Lapito, while top seed Channing Lawrence stayed alive by eliminating previous day’s champion Charlie Katz. This meant Channing had to beat Gia twice to win the title, a daunting task given how tired she looked (we believe her!) way back in round four. Lawrence found her second win in a big way however, firing her two best games of the day to defeat Ullio twice and win the title, the first of her JBT career.
Katelyn swept the Girls Scratch weekend, including the Invite win here with a final game win over Katz.
Big thanks as always to Jerry and the Strike Zone team for their usual amazing hosting job. Top season-long performers now advance to the Touring Players Championship, playing for our most prestigious title and $3,000 first place prize!
