RIVERSIDE LANES

champions Emily Ornelas & Alicia Sullivan

It was ladies' day in Laughlin, as female champions were crowned in both divisions of the JBT SW's visit to Riverside Lanes.

In the scratch division, defending all-conference Bowler of the Year BJ Baker opened the stepladder finals with a 243-213 victory over Nathan Panaligan, with BJ throwing the back seven strikes to put the match out of reach.

Baker defeated Christian Jensen 204-183 in round two.  Emily Ornelas then came on, and her tenth frame spare was enough to oust Baker 199-191, advancing her to the title match.

Top qualifier Kevin Saunders had handled the challenging conditions very well all day, but ran up against a roadblock in a suddenly red-hot Ornelas.  The two-time Arizona handicap Invitational champion became another in a current string of bowlers to win their first scratch title with a powerful 245-163 victory.  Miss Ornelas became the sixth female to win a scratch title, and it was the fourth win of her JBT SW career.

The handicap division opened with Scott Schickling, making his third consecutive finals, defeating defending Mojave handicap Bowler of the Year Nick Lamek 185-180.  Alicia Sullivan then came on to defeat Schickling 242-173, and she followed that up with a 205-163 dismissal of Andrew Gottlieb.

In the title match against top qualifier Josh Chefalo, Sullivan remained in control the entire time.  Depsite a fine effort from first-time finalist Chefalo, Alicia won the match 221-199, capturing the first title of her JBT SW career.

This marks only the second time in our 330 tournaments that both scratch and handicap winners on the same day have been female- way to go, ladies!

Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2006 JBT SW Mojave Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division.  Top season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2006 JBT SW Touring Players' Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per division!

Thanks everyone at Riverside for being gracious hosts for our Tour's annual stop in Laughlin. 64 entrants shared in over $1,600 in scholarships awarded.  Please continue to help spread the word about the terrific benefits of bowling JBT SW events!
