ADMIRAL ROBINSON

champs BJ Baker & Caymann Huntley

BJ Baker reached a huge JBT milestone, while Caymann Huntley made it two-for-two, in exciting JBT Southern California Conference action at San Diego Naval Station's Admiral Robinson Lanes.

18th birthday-boy Devin Bidwell opened the scratch division stepladder finals with a 214-212 thriller over Kyle King.  Bidwell then defeated Cameron Smith, who was one of three 300 game bowlers on the high scoring day (Jordan Ferrer and Theo Douthit were the others), 237-216, before Baker stopped him 279-202 to setup the finale.

This was a true clash of the JBT titans- with 29 titles between them they are easily the two most successful active lefthanders on our Tour.  A close, clean match turned weird, though, when BJ had a chance to shut Theo out in the ninth frame, before a 4-through-the-nose split stunned both himself and the crowd.  But another twist was in store, as Theo returned the favor with a missed washout in the tenth frame, giving a relieved BJ a 212-208 victory, and his landmark 20th career JBT title, only the third bowler ever to achieve that milestone.

Mike May continued a great season with a 235-202 win over Christina Fraijo to open the handicap division finals.  May then doubled in the tenth to get by a great effort from Jon Dukes, with Mike coming out on top 254-241.   Huntley then countered with a 230-189 win over May, advancing him to his second title match in as many events this season.

Top qualifier Justin Basom solidified his lead in the tumultuous point standings by nabbing the top seed, but despite a strong title match performance, was unable to match Huntley, who won the match 247-231 for his 2nd title of the season.

77 bowlers competed in the event, so we hope everyone who attended had a great time, and will spread the word about the great benefits of bowling JBT.   Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2007 JBT So Cal Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division.  Top season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2007 JBT Touring Players' Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per division!

Big thanks to everyone at Admiral Robinson for a terrific job hosting our event for the first time.  Over $2,000 in scholarships were awarded.  Want in on the fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
