BUENA LANES

champs Brian Leseberg and Mike May

Brian Leseberg and Mike May both won their second career JBT titles in exciting Southern California Conference action at Buena Lanes.

The scratch division torched the lanes at a nearly unprecedented clip all day, with 20 bowlers averaging over 220 after 5 games, and a record 3 bowlers +400 or better after 8 games; ironically, no honor scores were shot on the day, though.

Jeff Spiesman opened the scratch division of the stepladder finals with a 226-213 win over fellow southpaw Ken McElvaney.  Leseberg then stopped Spiesman 214-172, and followed with a 224-184 win over Will Jackson to reach the title match.

Top seed BJ Baker has regained the form that had him so dominant throughout his JBT career as of late, and was eager to add another win to his 21-title collection.  He faced a tough battle with Leseberg, a winner earlier this season in Canoga Park. After a brilliant 4-7-10 conversion in the second frame, Baker peeled off six strikes in a row to take command.  But when Baker stopped striking in the ninth, Brian struck for a double of his own.  19 pins in the tenth from Baker forced Leseberg to get all three in the tenth for the win.  Brian came through with the strikes for a brilliant 248-247 comeback victory, delighting the home crowd.

Tabetha Reynolds began the handicap stepladder finals with a 206-179 win over Bradley Hansen in game one.  Jeremy Davis then topped Reynolds 251-204, before Shayne Huntley overpowered Davis 230-160to reach the title match.

Shayne was looking to join his little brother Caymann as a JBT champion, but had his hands full with Mike May.  Mike dominated the event, and broke away from a recent run of title match losses with a 227-203 win.

83 bowlers competed in the event, so we hope everyone who attended had a great time, and will spread the word about the great benefits of bowling JBT.   Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2007 JBT So Cal Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division.  Top season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2007 JBT Touring Players' Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per division!

Big thanks to everyone at Buena for a fantastic job hosting our event for the first time.  Over $2,100 in scholarships were awarded.  Want in on the fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
