CERBAT LANES

champs Anthony Pepe and Courtney Dutton

Anthony Pepe made it three wins in three years for east coast JBTers in Kingman, while Courtney Dutton took charge of the handicap division points race with exciting wins in JBT action at Cerbat Lanes.

Amanda Falk did the girls proud with a 215 game in round one of the scratch finals that defeated Cayson Coyle and Jerod Florez.  In round two, Mike Cross came up with a huge 269 to beat Falk and Kevin Saunders.  A thrilling semifinal saw Cross begin with the front seven, then having to double in the tenth for 255 to fend off a hard-charging Dan Bodinet, who finished with the last seven for 250, not to mention Geoffrey Young with a solid 235.

Top qualifier Pepe, coming off a finals appearance in the Main Event, dominated the field here, before squaring off in an entertaining title match with Cross.  In the end, it was Mike still oh-so-close to victory, as Pepe would not let him come within a mark, eventually winning by a 234-217 margin.  Anthony joins Matt O'Grady and Mike Wodzinski as east coast JBT bowlers to win this event.

Blaine Hellman opened up the handicap finals with a 225 game that edged Rebecca Bodinet (202) and Chris Kendall (213).  In round two, Hawaiian bowler Leland Akau Jr came up with a 230 game to beat Taylor McKenrick (214) and Hellman (203).  In the semifinals, Dutton's 216 was good enough to beat Akau (176) and Eric Vitzthum (157) to reach the title match.

Top seed Logan Kennedy is having a breakout year in the Mojave Conference, and continued it by leading the event here, while Dutton is grabbing control of the Arizona handicap division, so this figured to be a great battle.   A close but lower-scoring match resulted in a 198-185 win for Courtney, good for the 4th title of her JBT career.

A sellout field of 120 bowlers competed in the event.   Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2007 JBT Arizona and Mojave Invitational Tournaments, the regular season's year end event, featuring a guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division.  Top season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2007 JBT Touring Players' Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per division!

Big thanks to everyone at Cerbat for their usual terrific job hosting our events.  Over $3,500 in scholarships was awarded.  Want in on the fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
