FOREST LANES

champs Charlie Hair & Jeff Ingram

Charlie Hair and Jeff Ingram captured their first career JBT titles in style in thrilling Southern California Conference action at a very high scoring Forest Lanes.

The scratch division featured three 300 games, only one shy of our all-time record for one event.  Ken McElvaney, Dan Bodinet, and Josh Blanchard all fired perfectos in the qualifying rounds.

The stepladder finals opened with Brian Leseberg, who has never lost in JBT ladders, defeating BJ Baker (one of his previous finals victims), 226-184.  Keseberg then rolled on, defeating fellow Venturan Jeff Spiesman 234-184, and then ousting McElvaney 211-195 to reach the title match.

Top qualifier Hair was enjoying his best JBT event ever in his home center, but had to get past the confident Leseberg to win the event.  Both bowlers started with a string of strikes, but after some mid-game 9-counts from Brian, Charlie just kept on striking, locking up the match with a ninth-frame strike. All that was left was an attempt at perfection.  The only other 300 in a JBT title match was rolled back in 1999, and Hair stuck in the 10th and 11th to give himself a shot at history.  His 12th ball looked good but finished light, ending up with 297, still plenty good for the victory.

Plenty of strikes were rolled in the handicap division as well, with a 5-game +69 score needed just to make the cut.  Jeff Ingram sealed his Invitational bid by making the top 5, and then opened the finals with a 223-181 win over Robert Page.  Ingram then got by Arizona's Rebeca Reguero 233-213, and followed up with a big 269-238 win over points leader Justin Basom (who fired a 298 earlier in the day) to reach the title match.

Top seed Troy Phomsavath was leading the tournament in his first ever JBT event, but found himself in a dogfight with the surging Ingram.   In the end, Jeff's tenth frame mark completed the ladder climb with a 242-218 win, his first career JBT title.

We hope everyone who attended had a great time, and will spread the word about the great benefits of bowling JBT.   The field is now set for the 2007 JBT So Cal Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division.  Top season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2007 JBT Touring Players' Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per division!

Big thanks everyone at Forest for another fine job hosting our event.  Over $1,700 in scholarships were awarded.  Want in on the fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
