Justin Spurrier and Zach Hattori captured titles in exciting JBT Mojave Conference action at Pahrump's Nugget Bowl.
Points leader JR Monteith opened up the scratch division finals with a 245-190 over Christian Jensen, the previous day's champion in Arizona. Spurrier then took over, defeating Monteith 232-213, and following with a 199-178 win over Chris Kagawa to reach the title match.
Top qualifier DJ Sloan was looking for his first title in over a year, but struggled badly in the title match, and Spurrier took advantage for a 174-138 win and his first career JBT victory.
Sarah Ansteth opened an all-female round one of the stepladder finals with a 217-201 win over defending Bowler of the Year Alesha Pannier. Casey Bybee then successfully returned to the finals with a 189-165 win over Ansteth, before falling to Hattori, 235-137.
Hattori recovered from a slow start to lead the tournament easily, and persevered in a low scoring title match for a 182-157 win over top-seeded Mike May, good for the third title of his JBT career.
71 bowlers competed in the event, and we hope everyone who attended had a great time, and will spread the word about the great benefits of bowling JBT. Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2007 JBT Mojave Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division. Top season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2007 JBT Touring Players' Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per division!
