BUENA LANES (Sat.)

champs Jeff Spiesman & Christina Fraijo

Jeff Spiesman and Christina Fraijo claimed long-awaited JBT victories in exciting Southern California Conference action at Buena Lanes.

Eric Rubin made his first So Cal finals of the year a success by running off the front nine strikes in a 279-223 win over Danielle Schilling.  Cameron Smith then defeated Rubin 224-156, before Kyle King, continuing a dominant season, beat Smith 237-178, to advance to yet another title match.

Top seed Jeff Spiesman has plenty of top-5 finishes on our Tour but his one previous title is a shockingly low amount given his impressive game.  Jeff clearly wanted no part of second place this time, though, throwing a game that could have easily been 300 to defeat Kyle 246-211 and capture his second career JBT title.

Kirk Chui opened the eight-person handicap stepladder finals with a 255 game that beat Justin Buenaventura (211) and Kaitlin Mayall (189).  David Fritz then defended his #4 seed with a 227 game that eliminated Chui (200) and Jacob Camacho (194).  In a close semifinal match, Karlie Loop rolled a 212 to edge Fritz (203) and Tabetha Reynolds (191) to reach the title game.

Top seed Christina Fraijo came oh-so-close to her first win at Mira Mesa, and she wasted no time in getting another shot at it, dominating all day long on a cheetah pattern that matched her game perfectly.  Despite a fine game from one-time champ Loop, Christina's strike in the tenth frame locked up a 233-214 win and a very, very long awaited first career JBT title.

Huge thanks to everyone at Buena Lanes for their incredible hospitality over a very busy weekend.  94 entrants shared in over $2,500 in scholarships awarded at the event- want in on the fun?  Come on down to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
