CERBAT LANES

champs Chris Weyrauch & Tyler Nall

Chris Weyrauch ended a long victory drought, while Tyler Nall tasted JBT victory for the first time, in exciting Mojave and Arizona Conference action at Kingman's Cerbat Lanes.

Jordan Vanover opened the scratch division of the stepladder finals with a big 258 game that defeated Brandon Allred (220) and Matt Cormack (160).  BJ Baker, fresh off his Main Event win the day before, blasted a 279 in round two to beat fine efforts from Vanover (234) and Bill Grant (224).  Weyrauch then took over in the semis, tossing 233 to beat Baker (207) and Jess Gagliardi , to reach the title match.

Top qualifier Geoffrey Young is always one of our Tour's toughest bowlers, and had just won back to back titles in Albuquerque two week's before.  Conversely, Chris hadn't won since June of 2006.  The well-bowled title match went back and forth, and when Young doubled in the tenth, it forced Weyrauch to do the same.  Chris was up to the test, throwing the clutch strikes for a 232-225 win and his sixth career JBT title.

Local bowlers performed very well this event, beginning with Kevin DeMaio's 226, which won round one of the handicap finals over Aubrey Calabrese (211) and Patrick Rucker (183).  DeMaio was good again in round two, rolling 235 to beat Taylor Knight (223) and Garrett Schweers (173).  Brandon Longo the fired 224 in the semifinals to beat De Maio (171) and Shawn Peters (171) to reach the title match.

Top qualifier Tyler Nall had owned this event, staying at or near the top of the leaderboard all day, but he'd have to face a determined Longo, who despite many close calls has yet to capture a JBT title.  A close match turned into a comfortable win for Nall when some late opens by Brandon gave Tyler a 218-189 win and his first career title.

Big thanks to Cerbat GM Ed Lavallee, K & K Pro Shops, and everyone else in Kingman for hosting one of our perenially best events.  Want in on the fun?  Come on down to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
