FIESTA LANES

champs Bill Grant & Kirk Russell

Bill Grant towered over the field in scratch, while Kirk Russell towered over everyone- Bill included- with a handicap division win in exciting JBT TX-NM action at Fiesta Lanes.

Jess Gagliardi opened the scratch stepladder finals with a 231-180 win over William Entsminger.  Jess then beat another El Paso bowler, BJ Eichensehr, 213-212 in a match that came down to BJ's final shot, before Grant stopped Gagliardi 219177 to reach the title match.

A Grant and Andy Byer title match is nothing new at all, as the two have combined for our last three Bowler of the Year awards.  A well bowled match on the scorpion pattern came down to the tenth frame.  Needing a double, tournament leader Byer was unable to get the first strike, and Grant escaped with a 212-201 win and his 11th career JBT title.

Peter Cane opened the handicap finals with a victory of the smallest margin, 222-221 over Aurora Popple, who almost struck out to force the tie.  Cane then rolled on past Valerie Holguin, 233-214, before Jonathan Frederick, whose 278 was the high game of the whole tournament, beat Cane 249-207, to reach the title match.

Top seed Kirk Russell was leading a JBT event for the first time, and used some great coaching tips from back home to perform well in the title match also, getting past Frederick 233-212 for his first career JBT title.
